Did you know acid washed jeans are making a comeback? I swear. I saw it on Facebook, so it must be true. As someone who lived through the 80s I am completely traumatized by the idea of these hideous pants coming back into style. Seriously, what’s next? Banana clips? Jams? Aqua net hair spray and spiral perms?
If you didn’t live through the 80’s, those are just a few of the horrifying trends we lived through. When I look at pictures of myself from high school, I cringe. From my big, crispy, frosted and permed hair (held back in a in a banana clip) to my “Frankie says RELAX” t-shirt, acid washed Guess jeans (that I could only zip with a wire hanger) and pink LA Gear high tops I was a walking, talking trend. The look did not age well.
In contrast, look at a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress. The fabric patterns may have changed slightly from the 1970’s to today, but the design has stayed pretty much the same since she debuted it in 1974. When you mention Diane von Furstenberg, people don’t snicker. Instead she’s a frequent guest judge on Project Runway and the wrap dress is in a museum.
