I recently moved a client’s site from their original StudioPress Chrome theme to a customization of the Platinum Child Theme for the Genesis framework. While the client loved the graphic enhancements, what they were really excited about was the increased functionality of the child theme. A few of the tasks that have been made easier include:

• Ability to use custom menus
• Ability to update their own Social Media menu using simple tools
• Using the new “Featured Image” to generate thumbnails, instead of TimThumb and Custom Fields
• A slider that is much easier to use, as well as integrated into the theme’s dashboard
• The elimination of a number of plugins, including ones used for page navigation and breadcrumbs
• SEO options built into the theme

This site also uses Wishlist Member to control subsciption content, NextGen Gallery to simulate an e-commerce front end, and Scribd to control access to protected PDF files. Best of all, the client was *so happy* with how much time they’re going to save completing common tasks. It’s nice when your blogging workload gets cut in half because of cool new WordPress/Genesis features!
